Discovery
‘Salvation’
The year is 2045 and Commander Strong was preparing to journey into space with his armada of colonisation ships that would travel into the expecting, uncharted and undiscovered.
Earth had been changed from a habitable suitable world, to a volcanic craterous nightmare. They didn’t have enough time to prepare. Approximately 10 billion innocent people had died during the crisis, humanity was in fear of extinction. Within a month of Earth’s tectonic plates erupting the population had dwindled from the original 10 billion to mere millions. If the Alpha Centauri system was a false hope, we would become extinct.
During the desperate times, lead astronomers and scientists studied the solar systems close to Earth and determined that Alpha Centauri had the only habitable planet within 65 light years. Nick named ‘salvation’, the planet was not close to Earth’s degree of habitable, but it would have to do. It was an icy world with few continents of arable fertile land; thankfully this planet was about 4 light years away.
Commander Strong looked out into empty space and knew he would not live to see the end of the journey, even traveling at a tenth of the speed of light it was going to take the fleet 40 years to reach their destination 40 long years. The Commander had lung cancer and knew he only had 5 years maximum to live. He opened the communication system “This is Commander Strong, we are on the brink of annihilation our planet has been destroyed and this is the only habitable planet we can reach with sparse research, but we will endure we will reach salvation”
39 years had passed and only 19 of the original 25 ships remained. The huge relics, the towering cities were falling apart resources were almost depleted and anarchy was present. Captain Xavious walked through the long overused corridors of his ship, remembering all the distant memories his crew possessed. They wouldn’t last much longer under the current conditions.
