Draft 4

Imagine, a young boy who is only 10 years old - full of dreams, joy, happiness and life, just longing to grow up and experience the world. But one day, one horrific day, this innocent, unsuspecting infant becomes the victim of preying child molester and the unspeakable happens. All of this boy's aspirations, all of his dreams, are raped away

Imagine, if you yourself was this victim? Imagine, the impact that this would have on your life? Imagine, just how could you possibly recover?

Some crimes just aren't forgivable..

I have presented myself here today, to present my opinion about the topic at hand. Is the death penalty, a just punishment or a relic of the past?

Point 1 - The death penalty dates back many hundreds of years and is seen to be quite barbaric under the circumstances that it was first introduced. Examples of middle age death penalties were for crimes like murder, theft and high treason. To note, European ordinary life and rules which included punishments, were primarily dictated by the Christian Church. Their society, just like ours is based on redemption and forgiveness because of Christian ethics and views. But child molestation? No not even middle age times had a crime or punishment for it.

History clearly shows us how lenient our society has become regarding crimes. The death penalty is perceived as a relic of the past, a completely inhumane punishment fit for no person in our own country. Let me ask you this, is child molestation, humane? Do the sick, mentally unstable people who commit the crime care for their victim's rights? No, instead they continue their acts with complete ill regard for their fellow man. So why are people arguing against  a punishment to fit the crime - when in fact the very concept is flawed because it’s a 'barbaric punishment' to fit a barbaric crime.  Even the bible agrees with this, I quote "An eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth". So as a Christian nation who are we to argue with the word of God?

Point 2 - To further illustrate my point on the imposition of the death penalty, I want you to consider these simple facts. Singapore's legal system, and the methods they commonly use for punishment, has generated some controversy in anti- death penalty nations. Because of their strong attitude towards criminals, they have one of the worlds lowest crime rates in the world.

Point 3 -The US spends over $48 billion dollars on their prison systems: maintaining them, providing necessities for them, looking after the criminals. And how do you think they pay for this?, How do they provide the prisons with that money? YOU. You the tax payer, pays for the prisons, you pay for their comfortable life, you give these convicted: murderers, rapists, counterfeiters, child molesters - a second life.
Point 4 - Primarily the role of the death penalty, is to initiate the act of removing a threat to society. Two prime examples of threats that were unsuccessfully removed are: Charles Luciano and Pablo Escobar. Both of these criminals continued operating their criminal empires from behind bars, proving that they are above the law

Conclusion - It is imperative that the death penalty should no longer be cast away as just a 'historical artifact' of the past, but  should be introduced into society today. Not only is the death penalty a just punishment to address toady's day crimes, it also provides a solution to the economic hardships that have manifested as a result of overcrowded prison systems. It is unfortunately obvious how lenient we have become regarding punishments but in actual fact, the death penalty would be 'necessary' in the eyes of the god we are so eager to please.
One last time remember:
remember how pedophiles ruins and destroy children's lives
remember how criminals still operate behind bars,
remember how low the crime rate in Singapore is.
Remember, the things people have to endure in the final moments of their lives
Some criminals are just above the law
Some crimes just aren't forgivable...

So as a Christian nation who are we to argue with the word of God?
Point 2 - Imposition of the death penalty is extraordinarily rare. It is estimated that in America, 1 out of 1600 criminals who have committed murder are sentenced to death - only 1.   1600 people die unnecessarily and only 1 person receives the appropriate punishment. Clearly, this staggering statistic shows how lenient we have become.

To further illustrate my point on the imposition of the death penalty, I want you to consider these simple facts. Singapore's legal system, and the methods they commonly use for punishment, has generated some controversy in anti- death penalty nations. Crimes such as: Drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, and of course murder can earn you a death sentence - and because of their strong attitude towards criminals, they have one of the worlds lowest crime rates in the world.

Point 3 - Economically speaking utilizing the death penalty would be the logical decision. For example, The US spends over $48 billion dollars on their prison systems: maintaining them, providing necessities for them, looking after the criminals. And how do you think they pay for this?, How do they provide the prisons with that money? YOU. You the tax payer, pays for the prisons, you pay for their comfortable life, you give these convicted: murderers, rapists, counterfeiters, child molesters - a second life. Australia should legalize the usage of the death penalty for criminals who have committed murder and rape and been proven guilty.

I have presented myself here today, to present my opinion about the topic at hand. Is the death penalty, a just punishment or a relic of the past?

Point 1 - The death penalty dates back many hundreds of years and is seen to be quite barbaric under the circumstances that it was executed. Examples of middle age death penalties were; murder, theft and high treason. To note, European ordinary life and rules - including punishments, were primarily dictated by the Christian Church. Their society, just like ours is based on redemption and forgiveness because of Christian ethics and views. But child molestation? No not even middle age times had a crime or punishment for it  no one would dare do a homosexual act, since at the time it would have been considered as evil. If, beheading was seen as a punishment fit for theft, Imagine, what they would do to child molesters.

History clearly shows us how lenient our society has become regarding crimes. The death penalty is perceived as a relic of the past, a completely inhumane punishment fit for no person in our own country. Let me ask you this, is child molestation, humane? Draft Topic - Death penalty, a just punishment or a relic of the past?

Imagine, a young boy who is only 10 years old -  full of dreams, joy, happiness and life, just longing to grow up and experience the world. But one day, one horrific day, this innocent, unsuspecting infant becomes the victim of preying child molester and the unspeakable happens.

Do the sick, mentally unstable people who commit the crime care for their victim's rights? No, instead they continue their acts completely ill regarding, their fellow man. So why are people arguing - when it fact the very concept is flawed, its a 'barbaric punishment' to fit a barbaric crime, a punishment to fit the crime. Even the bible agrees with this, i quote "An eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth", as a Christian nation who are we to argue with the word of god?

Although in reality the only thing stopping the government from putting criminals to death is the argument for capital punishment and human rights. Economically speaking, it is very expensive to maintain prisons and the people that dwell within. Do you think it is fair that criminals, people who aren't fit for society, should be able to live in comfort for the rest of their lives? - when they have destroyed others lives? They have knowingly and voluntary proved that they cannot be allowed to co exist with the rest of us, and that their very presence endangers the life of others.

Point 2 - Imposition of the death penalty is extraordinarily rare. It is estimated that in America, 1 out of 1600 criminals who have committed murder are sentenced to death - only 1. 1600 people die unnecessarily and only 1 person receives the appropriate punishment. Clearly, this staggering statistic shows how lenient we have become when deciding the fate of convicted murders and rapists. If someone you loved was murdered, would you want the accused to 'just' be locked away - living? Even after they are given their life sentence, even their death sentence, they are still: eating and breathing - and even in one example a notorious serial killer and rapist called Ted Bundy actually managed to father children, he had the privilege to procreate: a man who killed 35 people.

To further illustrate my point on the imposition of the death penalty, i want you to consider these simple facts.Singapore's legal system, and the methods they commonly use for punishment, has generated some controversy in anti- death penalty nations. Even the hardiest of criminals would deter from acting out in Singapore, since the death penalty is actually a common punishment. Crimes such as: Drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, and of course murder can land you a death sentence - and because of their strong attitude towards criminals, they have one of the worlds lowest crime rates in the world.

Point 3 - Even economically speaking installing the death penalty would be the logical decision. For example, The US spends over $48 billion dollars on their prison systems: maintaining them, providing necessities for them, looking after the criminals. And how do you think they pay for this?, How do they provide the prisons with that money? YOU. You the tax payer, pays for the prisons, you pay for their comfortable life, you give these convicted: murders, rapists, counterfeiters, child molesters - a second life. Now i am not saying that all the inmates should die, but i do believe that certain crimes aren't forgivable. Australia should make an example of people who demonstrate murder and rape of the 1st degree - criminals who have been proven guilty.

Point 4 - Primarily the role of the death penalty, is to initiate the act of removing a threat to society. Two prime examples of threats that were unsuccessfully removed are: Charles Luciano and Pablo Escobar. Both of these notorious crime lords were not executed. Charles Luciano - one of the most successful crime leaders in history, managed to continue his control of American crime long after his deportation to Italy. Secondly, Pablo Escobar not only controlled his criminal empire from his cell but also escaped from it with a level of disturbing ease. Some criminals are truly just above the law, and must and can only be treated with the death penalty

Conclusion - It is imperative that the death penalty should no longer be cast away as just a 'historical artifact' of the past, but it should be implemented into society today. Not only is the death penalty a just punishment to fit modern day extreme crimes, but it also provides an alternative to the economic hardships that prison  systems are manifesting in numerous countries. Not only is it now obvious how lenient we have become regarding punishments but in actual fact, the death penalty would be 'necessary' in the eyes of god of whom we are so concerned with pleasing regarding this controversial matter. One last time remember, remember how pedophiles ruins and destroy children's lives, remember how criminals still operate behind bars, remember how low the crime in Singapore is.
Remember, the things people have to endure in the final moments of their lives

English Assessment Task 1

Nature of Task

Persuasive texts are designed to position a point of view (opinion - thesis)

.Texts that successfully persuade are usually highly emotive (emotional words + influence listener/audience emotions)  and effectively balance opinions with facts (logos)

Persuasive texts can make sweeping generalizations (uniformed conclusions)5 , rely on stereotypes and hyperbole and yet still seem credible.

This is because a combination of objective(facts) and subjective(opinion) information is usually used to persuade
Careful use of repetition and high modality words(persuasive techniques) can emphatically convey the composer’s purpose if it is counterbalanced with the use of statistics, expert evidence and product/idea endorsement from authoritative sources.(objective facts)

Moreover, effective incorporation of anecdotes(personal story), analogies(comparison) and inclusive language(we, us, ours - include the audience) (techniques) can personalise the message and help connect the composer and their text with its audience.
