• Ender was able to kill the buggers, through the 'Ansible' by contacting the fleets deep in space which would systematically attack the buggers

Monday 30/5: Technological Advance

Do you think that the story presents technological advance as being positive or negative?

The technological advancements in Ender's Game have deffiantly been beneficial towards humanity, especially at the end of the book were humanity achieves a positive result. For example, the technological enhancement of the 'ansible' allowed humanity to contact their attack fleets that were deep in space - ready to systematically attack buggers. Without this technology there would be no way that the fleets could be coordinated, thus the buggers wouldn't have been defeated. 

What part do humans play in this advancement?


Humanity doesn't develop this technology from their own merit, but rather from studying and analyzing the buggers. We instead found out how they communicated, and made devices cable of emulating this. The buggers are connected through a hive mind and are not individuals and act through different queens. Because of this they communicate through their minds, and it is the speed of light meaning that they an have instant communication from any distance.

1. Name one technique you feel the author successfully utilized in the first 4 chapters. In one sentence say what the technique is and how it is successfully used in the book.

In the first 4 chapters the author successfully utilizes short, sparse description to deliver and create mysterious suspense through direct speech. Through these encounters in the book, we not only learn about Ender himself, but also other characters such as Graff.

Chapter 1 'Third' "Ive watched through his eyes, Ive listened through his ears, and i tell you he's the one....."I thought you said you liked the kid", "If the buggers get him, they'll make me look like his favorite uncle. "Alright we're saving the world after all, take him"

Chapter 3 'Graff' "The sister is our weak link, He really loves her" "I know. She can undo it all, right from the start. He won't want to leave her" "So what are you going to do" Persuade him that he wants to come with us....
